So here’s the 4th article in the bees series, we all have been so impressed with our followers love of bees, we want to continue with the tales surrounding our first 4, now 3 hives.
We’ll do our best to represent it correctly, but to be honest the brains behind the operation are David, The Bee Farmer, McDowell, Lisa and Tom.
So here we go!
Video 1;
On 29th March they installed the apiary, some thing we attached in the post of that time.
Video 2; was one with some sad news about bee hive 1 on 25th April.
Video 3; 9th May we showed a solution to save our first hive which was in danger of being lost as there wasn’t a Queen bee. So with the aid of newspaper, we were attempting a merge of hive 1 with hive 2.
So now to video 4 where we were able to see success in the merging of the hives, lots of bees coming and going. Yes we thought we were going to lose one, whereas we have been delighted to see a really strong colony in all 3 remaining hives. The best news we could have had!
Lisa has provided a slow-motion version of the video focussing on the entrance to the hive; this shows clearly the pollen laden workers (females), evident by their clumsy landing. However you can also see the drones (males) with their rounded bottoms, black in colour) struggling to land.
And now as the temperature rises we will begin to see more bees out and about; above 15C is when they become more active.
We will continue to follow up with more bee stories, but for now are delighted to see that Lisa has turned a tragedy into success.
